What You Need to Be an Online Student
You want to concentrate on your studies, not on finding an open coffee shop to work on your classes. If you want to succeed in your online classes, we recommend you have your own computer, or several alternatives. You will need the following:
- A personal computer (PC) or a Macintosh with Intel Architecture. Audio is recommended.
- Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 operating system and Microsoft Office Professional 2007 or 2010 software. MS Works, WordPerfect, and WordPad are not compatible with CampusConnect.
- Reliable Internet access – high-speed service with Internet Explorer is strongly recommended. The America Online (AOL) web browser will not work.
- Some online courses may require additional software. Reference the specific requirements for the quarter on the student website under e-Learning.
- The college provides and requires the use of a web-based email account. All communication to you will be through this email account. You will get help setting it up during orientation, and the help desk is live 7 days a week.
- Anti-virus software is highly recommended. Norton security firewall software may cause issues when using Blackboard. The help desk will help with this. (It's what they do, right?)
