Globe University-Woodbury accounting student Kyle LaPean accepted an internship with Lawrence Cumpston and Associates, PLLP after attending the 2012 Accounting and Auditing Student Conference at the Minneapolis Convention Center this fall.
“The accounting degree program at Globe University has given me the confidence to venture beyond my professional comfort zone,” said Kyle. “The guidance provided by my instructors and program chair helped me learn about the accounting companies and job opportunities the Twin Cities has to offer.”
Gina Schneider, Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with Lawrence Cumpston and Associates, PLLP said how impressed she was with LaPean’s resume due to his academic involvements as president of the campus’s student accounting organization, Tomorrow’s Accountants Today (TACCT) and extra effort both he and fellow Globe University student Sara Meinschock exhibited by making their own personalized business cards to present to employers (see image below).
Both students have illustrated exceptional leadership skills as well as a hard work ethic by helping revive the TACCT group at the campus, according to Thomas Kenney, Accounting Program Chair at Globe University-Woodbury.
“The first piece of advice I give to students at their orientation is the importance of gaining work experience as a student,” said Teresa Obinger, Director of Career Services at Globe University-Woodbury. “Internships are the best way to experience a typical work environment in their new careers, get mentored by industry professionals, and start using the skills they’ve gained in their courses to prepare them for the workforce.”
Lawrence Cumpston & Associates, PLLP is a prestigious public accounting firm located in the Twin Cities. Throughout the years the firm has developed expertise in transportation, business, insurance, and real estate throughout the Midwest.
