Emily Olson

Accounting might not sound exciting to most, but for Globe University-Madison East and Madison West’s new accounting degree program Chair Emily Olson, it’s fun and rewarding.  Having always had a love of numbers, Emily attended Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wis., and earned a bachelor’s business administration degree with an accounting emphasis and later obtained her Certified Public Accounting (CPA) License.

After college, Emily worked for First Federal Savings Bank as an internal auditor.  She then moved to Madison, where she worked for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation as an auditor, auditing the actual cost contracts of engineering firms.  Emily moved on to work for CUNA Mutual Group as an internal auditor.  Her role at CUNA Mutual Group naturally led to her joining the investment arm of the organization, MEMBERS Capital Advisors. For the last four years, Emily has worked as a senior accountant for the State of Wisconsin Investment Board.

Emily is currently aspiring to grow her own business, Talent Accounting Services, LLC.  Through her volunteer role as the treasurer for the Waunakee Community Band, she realized a need for accountants in the nonprofit space, assisting nonprofits with getting the correct tax status and documentation to the IRS.  She  enjoys working with small businesses, especially organizations that are just starting up.

Emily is excited about teaching students at Globe University. She worked as a tutor at Viterbo University, assisting students that were struggling with accounting concepts.  She has been responsible for training new employees and interns at the various organizations she has worked, and developed a love of helping others.

Emily says “I love seeing the glazed-over look on people’s faces when I know they are confused, then walking them through the concept or process, and seeing their face light up as the light bulb goes on.  There is no more rewarding experience than this!”

In her spare time, Emily enjoys watching the Badgers, snowshoeing, playing bean bags, biking, and hunting turkey and deer. She can also be seen playing the flute in the Waunakee Community Band.
