26 Staff and Students Donate Time and Talents for Community Service Day

Recently, 26 staff members and students from Globe University-Appleton participated in our organization-wide Community Service Day by assisting St. Joe’s Food Program and The Arc Fox Cities.

Staff and students volunteered at St. Joseph’s Food Program. They took bulk cake mixes and re-portioned them for distribution.

“Community Service Day is a day set aside where the entire organization focuses their attention on the community where their campus is located. Community Service Day is a day where we volunteer to give back to the community where our students live and our graduates work. This community is our community, and it is important to give back and demonstrate to the community that We Care,” said Kimberly Stevens, campus director.

We began the day by giving back at St. Joe’s Food Program in Menasha. It was truly an experience enjoyed by all.

“The most rewarding part of the day was when the entire campus was at St. Joseph’s Food Program. Groups of employees were packaging food, sorting food, or distributing food, and it was wonderful to see everyone having fun while providing a valuable service to the community. It was rewarding to be a part of a community service that is bigger than me, than us. There are so many people in need and we never know if we may be in need someday. It is important to give back and pay it forward. Many employees commented that they enjoyed working with St. Joseph’s and would like to work with them on a more regular basis,” shared Kim.

Leah Thibodeau, volunteer coordinator at St. Joseph’s Food Program, said they need hundreds of volunteers to pull off what they do for the community.

“St. Joe’s provides supplemental nutrition to approximately 1200 families each week. With only seven part-time staff members, we rely on over 300 volunteers to make this happen. The volunteers from Globe were able to help with projects that our regular volunteers don’t always have time for. This means that more food is prepared for distribution and our clients can receive those extra grocery items sooner. Thank you to everyone who came in to help. We couldn’t do it without you!” commented Leah.

Staff and students set up Sabre Lanes for an event hosted by The Arc Fox Cities.

We ended the day by setting up for an event that The Arc Fox Cities was hosting at a local bowling alley. We decorated the venue for a special luau-themed event they held later that day.

In total, Globe University-Appleton donated 78 volunteer hours on Community Service Day.
