Medical Assistant Club students at Globe University were able to witness something wonderful: corrected vision!
A physician from Valley Eye Associates prepped the students by going over the skills that he was going to utilize and showed specifics as to how the laser was able to correct the vision. Then, as the students viewed through windows overlooking the surgery, the students were able to learn what was actually done during a LASIK procedure and were able to see various tasks that Medical Assistants utilize during a surgical procedure. There was also a camera attached to the machine performing the laser treatment – the students got a close-up look at the work being done on the eye!
Many students were surprised that such a surgery only took about 10 minutes. Some even left with a new perspective on the surgery – and scheduled consultations for themselves!
