An Attitude of Service: One Student’s Efforts Garner $2,000

paralegal program

Volunteering at the Appleton Police Department is just one way that makes Peggy Faulks deserving of the Community Service Scholarship.

Recent volunteer efforts have paid off big time for one Globe University student in Appleton, Wis. Peggy Faulks, a student in the paralegal program at the nationally accredited university, was honored with receiving the $2,000 Community Service Scholarship.

Some of her recent volunteer experience has helped both local and nationwide organizations like Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Operation Christmas Child, Can-Do Canines and the Appleton Police Department. At the police department, Peggy is providing clerical skills for various projects and will be trained in the speed patrol program where she will monitor the speeds of drivers in specified locations. Most recently, Peggy has committed to volunteer with the Fox Valley Humane Association for their Cat Socialization program which helps frightened and shy cats acclimate to the shelter setting.

Globe University’s community manager, Kristin Cates, was amazed at the time and effort that Peggy has committed to community service. “The amount of time that Peggy has spent donating her time to needy causes is admirable,” Kristin said. “Peggy has shown compassion and dedication through a busy lifestyle that includes being a full-time student. She is proof that if you do work hard, you will be rewarded for your efforts.”

Peggy attributes her helping attitude to the way she was raised as a child. “I think that I have always been involved with volunteering since a young age, whether it was participating with my church, grade school, high school or now with my current employer,” she said. “In the past year, I have participated in several volunteer activities with my employer and volunteer for the Appleton Police Department on an ongoing basis.”

A scholarship is especially sweet when it comes at a time that it’s needed the most. Peggy, who is paying for her own education, says that this will certainly make a difference. “I am so thankful for the generosity that Globe University has given me,” she said.

The Community Service Scholarship is just one of the many scholarships that Globe University awards to its students each year. The Globe University network of colleges has awarded approximately $50 million in scholarships to thousands of students over the past five years.
