The “Rachel Bosveld Fallen Soldiers Memorial Walk” took place on Saturday, October 22. Hundreds of people joined together at the Thousand Islands Environmental Center in Kaukauna for a day of remembrance. There were many laughs and tears as we all walked in rememberance and honor of our loved ones.
Students Brenda Buchberger and Brandy Fish each contributed pictures of their fathers, along with other loved ones. Staff members Cathy Olk and Amanda Loewen contributed pictures of family members in the military, both active duty and veterans.
Participants were allowed to place shrines of remembrance along the walk that included pictures and memorabilia of their active duty or veteran loved ones. Both alive and deceased soldiers were represented, along with many chances to leave notes of encouragement for those currently serving overseas.
In addition to the Memory Walk, there was a silent auction, bake sale, raffle games and arts/crafts vendors. Funds raised will go to Rachel’s Operation Act of Kindness Fund, a fund that assists veterans coming back from war zones with new artificial limbs and medical expenses that are not covered by the military. Funds also went to the Community Benefit Tree, Inc, a Women’s Fox Valley Memorial Park Fund, and the Oshkosh West High School Music and Art Scholarship Fund.
