Toys for Tots: Making Spirits Brighter

For most children, the holiday season is filled with wonder, joy, and a new toy! However, many children in our local communities do not receive a special gift during the holidays. This is where Toys for Tots steps in! The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to “collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.”

The Globe University – Appleton campus is currently a Toys for Tots donation location. Toys may be toys-for-tots-imagedropped off in the commons through Wednesday, Dec. 14. In addition, during the week of Dec. 5, the campus will be hosting a bake sale and selling “scrub passes” for $1 (with a pass, students do not have to wear scrubs for the day – unless required for a specific course). In addition, staff and faculty will be able to donate $1 to wear jeans for a day. All of the donations will be used to purchase toys for this charity.

Locally, Toys for Tots is coordinated by the Home Builders Association of the Fox Cities. After collected, the toys are distributed to families through Salvation Army programming. These efforts serve thousands of children each year in Outagamie County. If you would like to find out more information about how to either donate a toy or request assistance for a family in need, click here to visit the local Toys for Tots website.
