As spring quarter comes to an end, it is a great time to reflect on the experiences and growth that occurred over the past few months of classes. For some, there were experiences that taught us lessons on time management—maybe a test you may not have studied enough for, a paper you could have spent a little more time on, or an assignment that you just couldn’t get done in time. But this should also be a time to reflect on the successes, sacrifices and dedication that have paid off with great rewards.
Recently, Globe University-Minneapolis did just that. Faculty, staff, graduates, families and friends met on the 50th floor of the IDS Center to celebrate the spring class of 2014. With a stunning view of Minneapolis, 17 graduates walked proudly across the stage to receive their degrees.
Two graduate speakers included Alexandria Stock, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, and Nancy Charlton, Bachelor of Science in Business Management. The keynote speaker was Minnesota State Senator Bobby Joe Champion. Senator Champion is an attorney and represents District 59, which includes portions of downtown and north Minneapolis in Hennepin County. In his heartwarming commencement address, Senator Champion offered advice and commendation to the graduates with sincerity and humor. He shared his personal experiences with college and perseverance to succeed. He closed with his favorite quote from the late Maya Angelou: “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.”
