Fall 2015 Graduation Ceremony: an Inspiring Experience at GU-La Crosse

Globe University- La Crosse celebrated its fall graduates during a ceremony at Stoney Creek in Onalaska, Wisconsin, in December.

The large hall was packed with family and friends. Many GU-La Crosse staff and faculty were also in attendance. In addition, Jeanne Herrmann, Chief Operating Officer for GEN, attended the ceremony.

The graduate speaker was Christopher Anderson, who majored in management accounting and gave an inspirational speech to his fellow graduates.

The guest speaker was Alison Prodzinski, the new director of career services at GU-La Crosse. Before she obtained the position of director of career services, Prodzinski worked as an adjunct instructor on campus; so she was no stranger to the graduates present.

Prodzinski had some great advice in her speech to the grads. She said:

Fall 2015 Graduating Class

Fall 2015 Graduating Class

  • Always make your bed
  • Find someone to help you paddle
  • Measure a person by the size of their heart, not the size of their flippers
  • Keep moving forward and know that life is not fair
  • You will likely fail, it is part of life
  • Conquer the obstacle head on
  • Don’t back down from the bullies
  • Step up when times are the toughest
  • Start singing when you are up to your neck in mud
  • Never, ever give up!

Prodzinski ended her speech with the following advice, “Follow your passion. Stay true to yourself. Never follow someone else’s path unless you’re in the woods and you’re lost and you see a path then by all means you should follow that.”

This is just a small portion of the great advice Prodzinski shared with the graduates.

June Vatland, dean of education at GU-La Crosse, said the ceremony was, “very special, as we had grads in almost every program. Additionally, we were able to see our massage therapy cohort students graduate after one year of taking classes on the weekend.”

June added, “Graduation is one of my favorite events of the quarter. It is so uplifting to see all of the graduates hard work pay off. The commitment shown by all the students to their education is incredible.”

Following the graduation was a reception with cupcakes and punch. The next graduation ceremony will be held on campus at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2016.
