The WCCO Veteran of the Month for February is Captain Nikki Jansen.
Captain Jansen grew up in Plymouth, MN and knew early on that she wanted to become a pilot. While attending Wayzata High School, she was nominated to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. She feels the military offers the best pilot training available and pursued the opportunity. Her nomination came from Senator Jim Ramstad. She was accepted and attended the Air Force Academy from June 2002 until graduating with a BS degree in May 2006. She feels fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with great people during her education and training.
Captain Jansen completed her pilot training in Texas at Laughlin Air Force Base. She then became a pilot instructor there for three years. She trained on the B1 bomber at Dyess Air Force Base and then transferred to Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, SD. She is a member of the 34th Bomb Squadron. They are known as the “Thunderbirds”.
Captain Jansen enjoys the travel involved in a military career. It has allowed her to experience different cultures and meet a variety of people. Through these experiences she has been involved in several volunteer programs that allow her to help in local communities.
A deployment to SE Asia is anticipated in the near future. Her squadron will provide air support for the ground troops.
Thank you to Captain Nikki Jansen and all of our veterans for their service and commitment!
