Meet Your Online Librarians

Globe University and Minnesota School of Business-Online is happy to announce the arrival of two new online librarians. Trent Brager is the campus librarian and Amy O’Shea is the associate librarian. We are excited to have their knowledge and experience brought to the online division. They both took some time to share a little about themselves.

Can you share a little about your educational and career background?

I received my bachelor’s in mathematics-secondary education from UW-River Falls in 2007. I taught math in high schools and did some substitute teaching for about four years. Then I went to St. Catherine University for my master’s in library and information science. I’ve been with MSB-Rochester for the past two years. This quarter I will complete my certificate in mobile application development.

What do you enjoy doing outside of your work life?

I am a huge hockey fan. I also enjoy playing board games. I like traveling though I don’t do it as much as I’d like to. I am intrigued by technology and that’s why I decided to take the courses in application development.

What tips do you have for students using the online library?

My tip is to make the library your first stop for doing any project. Think about this: Your librarian’s job is to help you get your homework done.  We get the resources needed to complete your assignments and make guides and tutorials to help you use the resources.  Take advantage of that!

I recently did a library instruction session and many students were amazed at how much useful information is packed into the library website. Also, chatting with the librarians online is very easy. A lot of students seem unsure of using the chat feature on the library site, but by the end of the chat most feel relieved that the librarian has helped.

Do you have a fun fact that you would like to share about yourself?

Soy sauce is my favorite condiment and I like it on just about everything. I could probably drink it!

Can you share a little about your educational and career background?

I was a non-traditional student, starting college at 24 years old. I went to PCC and Portland State University in Oregon before moving to Madison, WI to obtain my master’s in library and information studies from the University of Wisconsin.

What do you enjoy doing outside of your work life?

Outside of work, I enjoy gardening and am currently working to create an edible landscape. I also like to ride my bike, explore new places and spend time with my family.

What tips do you have for students using the online library?

Use the chat service! There is a librarian staffing it and they are just as helpful on chat as they are in person. Be sure to introduce yourself and let us know what campus you are from.

Do you have a fun fact that you would like to share about yourself?

I started a Saturday morning walking group this year and to date we have done 25 hour long walks all over Madison and the surrounding area.

Make sure to head over to the Online Library to meet Trent and Amy!
