Innovations in Training: Resistance Stretching & Flexibility

Anne Tierney, MS, and Steve Sierra are co-founders of Innovative Body Solutions. They travel the
country delivering resistance stretching workshops and certifications which are accredited by NASM, ISSA,
and NCBTMB. Anne, a past collegiate athlete and Academic All-American, and Steve, a NASM certified
trainer focusing on functional training, specialize in training Olympic and professional athletes. They have
worked with recent Olympians, Nastia Lukin and five-time Olympian, 41 year old Dara Torres who calls
Resistive Stretching her “secret weapon.” Torres credits her success to continue competing at the elite level
to Anne and Steve’s training techniques. Anne and Steve have been seen on NBC’s Today Show stretching
Al Roker and have recently produced their first DVD, Resistance Stretching with Dara.
This year’s workshop will explore the innovative training approach of Resistance Stretching. Resistance
Stretching is the revolutionary technique that utilizes a person’s own resistance in the strengthening and
elongating of muscles. The use of this system can not only increase flexibility and muscular performance,
but it may help heal old injuries and prevent future ones. The discovery behind Resistance Stretching is that
to truly stretch a muscle, you must contract the muscle
throughout the entire range. This method combines
strength training and flexibility training. Men’s Journal,
Outdoor Magazine and the March issue of Vogue have
featured articles on Resistance Stretching.
