Scrabble Bee benefits Literacy Green Bay

Members of our Green Bay faculty/staff participated in the 10th Annual Scrabble Bee for our second consecutive year to benefit Literacy Green Bay.  Although we didn’t take home the trophy, our Corporate sponsored table and participation was a much appreciated contribution to the success of this year’s event!

Jennifer Nelson, Executive Director of Literacy Green Bay, stated: “Because of you, more students will obtain their GED’s.  More parents will be able to help their kids with their homework.  More people will obtain better jobs, or maybe even just a job, and more parents will stand taller because they now understand.”

Literacy Green Bay has been improving lives through literacy for 31 years!  This organization offers programs centered around the advancement of literacy-an individual’s ability to read, write and speak English.  About 10% of their learners are seeking basic skills.  Almost 100% of their learners come from low-income families.  According to Literacy Green Bay, for every dollar invested in this organization, there is a $33 economic benefit returned to the overall economy.  A rise of just 1% in literacy scores leads to a 2.5% rise in labor productivity.
