Students from Globe University- La Crosse competed in the International Collegiate DECA Career Development Conference held in Salt Lake City, Utah April 20-25. Students participating included Tim Miller, Lisa Paulson, Kevin Moyle, and Melissa Henderson. Preliminary competitions were held on Monday, April 23. Tim and Lisa competed in a team event in Business Ethics. Kevin and Melissa competed in a team event in Business to Business Marketing. Tim, Lisa, and Melissa also competed as a Team in the Entrepreneurship Challenge. Tim, Kevin, Lisa, and Melissa also attended several student workshops focusing on member recruitment, dress for success, fundraising, and professional development.
To get to the International DECA Competition, the students prepared by competing at the State level in Mankato, Minnesota, and regional events in St. Cloud, Minnesota and Elk River, Minnesota. Including both State and regional events, Team La Crosse brought home a total of 8 first place and 4 second place awards in their respective competitions! In addition to competing, the group has held several fundraisers on campus and volunteered in the community to support their competition and travel expenses.
Tim and Lisa competed against over 40 teams from the United States, Canada, and Mexico in Business Ethics. The top two teams from each of four sections advanced to the Finals.
Kevin and Melissa competed against over 30 teams in Business to Business Marketing at the international competition. The top two teams from each of three sections advanced to the Finals. Team LaCrosse did not advance to the final round of competition at ICDC.
While all members felt they did an excellent job in their events, the competition was fierce. Preliminary results will not be published until mid-May and students will then know how they placed overall in the preliminary events.
Globe-La Crosse Collegiate DECA would like to recognize all the current members. It takes a team to compete and while these students have not yet been to a competition, their tireless effort at fundraisers is priceless. Thank you Tanya Heyroth, David Levine, and TJ Moore.
The Globe DECA club is always welcoming new members! Contact one of our Chapter Officers; Tim Miller, Lisa Paulson, Kevin Moyle, Melissa Henderson, or the LaCrosse Campus DECA Advisor, DeAnn Perzel for more information.
