Congratulations to Jodie Liedke of Globe University-La Crosse for being awarded a merit distinction at the Pump House Regional Arts Center Exposure: Words from Images photography and writing exhibition! Liedke, a Writing Instructor at Globe-La Crosse, was honored at the Pump House Arts Center for her exemplary writing submission “Horses for Fairies”. Only 3 writers in the competitive exhibition were awarded with this distinction. Local writers, and writers from as far as Rhode Island, entered in the writing contest.
The premise of the exhibition, Exposure, was to join visual artists and authors in the creation of companion works. Multiple writers submitted works of prose, poetry, fiction, and/or nonfiction as part of the application and selection process. From the submitted pieces, the Pump House Art Center Selection Committee chose 25 writers to create new pieces to accompany pre-selected photography from 25 other artists. Liedke was one of the 25 authors who applied, and was selected, to participate in this collaborative contest.
Liedke, along with the other 24 writers, was given an original photograph. From that photo, the writers had one month to write an original piece to accompany the artwork. After the writers submitted their work, it was put on display, with the coordinating photographs, at the Pump House Art Center Gallery.
On Saturday, October 1, 2011, the Pump House held a public showing and reading of the art work and original writings for Exposure. Liedke, along with the other authors, read their pieces in the Pump House Theatre with standing room only occupancy. Globe students and staff attended the reading to show support for their talented instructor and co-worker.
After all of the readings, Liedke was presented with a merit of distinction from the La Crosse Public Library. Globe University students, staff, and faculty celebrated Liedke’s award! The Globe-La Crosse community is proud of Liedke’s distinction and presents her with sincere congratulations for her accomplishment!
Congratulations Jodie! Wonderful job!
