The Globe University-La Crosse campus has an ongoing partnership with New Horizon’s Domestic Abuse Shelter. The La Crosse campus prepared and donated personal gift bags to the shelter over the summer and participated in the Domestic Abuse Walk in October.
This time, Massage Therapy students were able to get a break from their studies in November and complete a hands-on project in their Kinesiology class. Students made lip balm and bars of soaps to donate to New Horizon’s. The Massage Therapy students were eager to see how they could create their own natural remedies. The students hope to give the shelter 35 individual lip balms and 5 pounds of soap for the holiday season. The soap is made from goat’s milk with oatmeal, milk, honey, and vitamin E oil.
The donations do not stop there, either. The Veterinary Technology department and the Medical Assistant/Medical Administrative Assistant department partnered together to create a Tree of Hope for the holidays. Students decorated the tree on November 28th and stationed the tree in the commons on campus. The departments asked for donations that will go to the New Horizon’s Shelter. Requested products included bath towels, sheets, pillowcases, and animal related products such as pet food, treats, and toys. Their hope is that the individuals at the shelter do not have to surrender their animals in their time of need.
