Globe University Students Share ‘A Day in the Life’ Through Photos: Part I

By Dana Wallace, campus librarian

Over a weekend in September, Globe University-La Crosse asked students to take pictures of their lives away from Globe. Our students are more than just students — they are parents, daughters, sons, grandparents, and have jobs and lives outside of school. These students’ photographs tell stories about themselves and their lives.

12 student entries were posted on Facebook; the photo with the most “likes” was declared the winner of a Visa gift card. Each contestant will be featured, so stay tuned for Part II.

 First Place: Alexis Weber

Alexis Weber’s photo had the most “likes.” Alexis, a vet tech student who will graduate in December, was inspired by her seven-month-old Husky puppy, Xena, in this photo entitled “Summertime.”

“My puppy absolutely loves her purple kiddie pool. She plays in it every day!” Alexis values the hands-on learning experiences from “amazing instructors,” but also enjoys her downtime.

“My favorite part about the weekends is being able to be with my fiancé, cats (Jax, Luna and Keira) and spending more time with Xena,” she said. “The weekends are when we both have off of work so we generally just all relax together.”

Second Place Tie

Second place was a tie with photographs by Keo Lor, who is earning her medical assistant degree, and Sacha Hansen, vet tech student.

Keo Lor

Keo took her inspiration from her incredible young children (and one on the way). Keo credits “the great people that keep you motivated,” for her successful work at Globe.

Her photograph, “Girls in a Tree,” was taken on the day her family decided to go to the park and the girls wanted to climb a tree. “I wasn’t really thinking much of it, but the picture says it all,” Keo noted.

Sacha Hansen

Sacha’s photo, “The River,” was inspired by every day observation. “I was taking a walk by my apartment, and I looked up and the river looked beautiful,” she said. “It was relaxing hearing the water against the shore.”

Sacha loves spending time with her fiancé, dog and family. Sacha also enjoys working with the animals on campus. Her favorite aspect is: “the hands on work I get with the animals and giving back.”

Crystal Janisch

Crystal Janisch, a student in the medical assistant program, added her own take to the photograph contest by submitting a nature photo entitled “My Beautiful Hibiscus Tree.”

“I have loved my hibiscus tree since I got it earlier this summer, and it’s been flowering so well,” she said. “I was inspired by its beauty.”

On her time off on the weekends, Crystal enjoys “spending time with my hubby; he works so hard and I don’t get to see him enough.”

 August Manning

August Manning, another medical assistant student, shared a photo she took of her sister. “This is a day I got to spend with my sister and her dogs,” she stated. “What inspired me to take this photo was that it was a nice day out, and [I got] to spend time just being with my sister.”

August noted that she has enjoyed her experience at Globe, especially, “the small class sizes and friendly atmosphere.” Congratulations to August for graduating this quarter!

Emily Neumann

Emily Neumann, a vet tech student, spends her weekends with her boyfriend and his family. “I also enjoy giving my two fur babies their quality time as well,” Emily said.

Her photo, “A Girl and her Dog,” came from a sweet moment. “I just wanted to take a picture of my puppy, Thor, and I cuddling together,” she said. “I’m glad I got a shot of his little face.”
