Jill Newhouse, financial aid manager for Globe University-Madison East earned the staff member of the year award. In this blog, learn more about who she is and what she does for students at Globe University.
1. Tell us a little bit about you
I have been with Globe University for just over a year as the financial aid manager at the Madison East Campus. I previously worked at another college as the director of finance. I worked in the banking industry for 15 years before I worked in education. I have a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in sociology. My work history in finance and my degree in sociology meld together perfectly in the role of financial aid manager.
2. What do you do in your current role?
I meet with all students to discuss the funding options available to pay for their education. I counsel students on lending options and monitor their accounts for any discrepancies or needs. I talk with them about the importance of understanding their financial obligations and the options available for handling these obligations.
3. What’s your favorite part about working at Globe?
I really enjoy working with the team at the Madison East campus. I work with wonderful people. I also enjoy getting to know the students and learning about their goals and dreams.
4. What’s one piece of advice you would give students?
The one piece of advice I would give students is to take school as seriously as you do your jobs. If you are committed to your education, you will do well.
5. Who do you look up to and why?
I would say I look up to my mom. She is a very strong and independent person. She has always encouraged me to go after my dreams.
6. What do you like to do in your spare time when not working?
I am a pretty active person. I attend yoga classes every week. I enjoy skiing in the winter and paddle boarding in the summer. I am currently taking classes through Globe University for a MBA degree.
“Jill does an exemplary job of leading by example. She is student-centered, strives for excellent results, and is passionate about our sector and our campus,” Rocky Klitzke, regional director said.
Congrats Jill on your big award and thank you for making a difference at Globe each day!
