Madison East Volunteers Spread Sunshine

Sunshine Supper SignGlobe University – Madison East was fortunate to partner with the YMCA of Dane County in serving the Sunshine Supper on August 1st. In the spirit of hospitality and community outreach, the Sunshine Supper provides a free and nutritious meal for people living in the Sun Prairie area.

The meal is served every Monday evening from 5:30—6:30pm at Sun Prairie United Methodist Church.  Everyone in the community is welcome to attend the Sunshine Supper.  In fact, many community members make it a weekly outing with their friends and family members.

Madison East had six volunteers at the supper.  None of the six had helped with the meal before, but all were excited about getting involved.  Their tasks  included serving food and drinks and eating along side the attendees to keep them company.  Yes, eating was part of their volunteer assignment.

The organizers of the Sunshine Supper believe that the smiling faces and conversation are just as important as the meal.  While the first shift volunteers served food, the second shift volunteers sat down and dined with the community members who attended.  Later on the volunteers shifted places allowing all volunteers a chance to work and meet some new friends while enjoying a good meal.  In the spirit of community togetherness, they topped the night off with a birthday sing-a-long.
