You’ve seen her in the library. She knows the ins and outs of APA formatting and can help you cite any source. Who is she? That’s right; our very own Campus Librarian Cynthia Bachhuber has been chosen for the second time as the Staff Member of the Quarter! Staff Member of the Quarter is an award that is voted on by Globe University-Madison East staff.
“I was totally shocked to be chosen again! I definitely wasn’t even thinking about it as a possibility,” said Cynthia.
As a history major in college, Cynthia was fascinated by how history was kept. As an undergrad she worked as a research assistant to a historian and started to conduct her own research as well. “I loved jumping back in time using newspapers, maps and letters,” Cynthia said. “And I especially loved how the librarians were always able to point me in the right direction or uncover some hidden source.”
Cynthia has worked for Globe University for five years now, starting out at the Madison West campus when they opened and moving to the Madison East campus three years ago after purchasing a house on the east side.
Cynthia enjoys working in an academic setting and says, “I love to see students become sophisticated and critical researchers. I love overhearing conversations where one student helps another one with a new way of finding info. I love being able to come through with just the right item. Whether it’s an article that I was able to find through inter-library loan or a book that covers exactly what the student is looking for.”
As a librarian, one might wonder what Cynthia’s favorite book is. As Cynthia says, “This question is like asking, ‘which of your children is your favorite?’ Some biggies for me include ‘The Brothers K,’ ‘The Poisonwood Bible,’ and both the ‘Narnia’ and ‘Harry Potter’ series.”
Campus Director Rocky Klitzke said, “Cynthia is an amazing resource for students and other staff and faculty. She is instrumental in supporting our iPad® transition at Madison East and is a well-deserved recipient of Staff of the Quarter.”
