From classical to punk, the Madison Area Music Awards honor all types of local music. This year was the 9th Annual Madison Area Music Awards and the second year Globe University was fortunate enough to sponsor the youth award category and present at the awards show on June 2nd.
The awards show is coordinated by the Madison Area Music Association (the MAMAs) and is a way to both celebrate the rich and diverse music scene in the Madison area and raise funds for the association. The MAMAs mission is to support the preservation and expansion of all forms of music education in the Madison area, and to encourage and promote the artistic advancement of our emerging musical youth.
Music Business student Richard Brown has an insider’s understanding of the MAMAs as he has been working closely with them since September 2011. Richard serves on the MAMAs Board of Directors as Secretary and is also their Social Media Web Coordinator. He played a critical role in promoting, planning, and executing this year’s award show and has met and connected with many key players in both the local and national music scene through his involvement.
“I have been incredibly privileged to be part of the Madison Area Music Association as a member of the Board of Directors,” Richard says. “My involvement with the organization is directly due to my education at Globe University, it has been one of the most exceptional experiences of my time here.”
Richard will be graduating later this month with his associate’s degree in Music Business and is planning to move to the Seattle area. He is looking forward to continuing his work with the MAMAs virtually and returning to Madison for next year’s 10th award show.
