Business Communications students organized an entertaining evening all in the name of charity. Over 40 people gathered on campus for Casino Night at Globe University and the night proved to be successful as the $500 goal raised exceeded to $600!
Proceeds raised went to Lilada’s Livingroom, a non-profit organization which creates a safe environment for women and girls to heal from the wounds of sexual abuse. Founder Lilada Gee was amazed by the student’s hard work. “I really appreciate Globe’s commitment to community outreach. Globe stands shoulder to shoulder with UW-Madison and MATC in supporting community organizations.”
That night, the student commons transformed into a lively casino, complete with food, decorations and casino games. Attendees paid $10 for admission and $50 worth of play money. Winnings were then cashed in for raffle tickets for prizes including gift certificates to local restaurants, movie theaters, and more. In addition, a silent auction was held. Donated items included free hotel stays, gym memberships, and a $50 Best Buy gift card.
Student, Aliyah Smith reflected on the success. “I thought it went great. We all worked really hard to make this a big success. I’m glad I was a part of it and hope we can do it again.”
Business Communications Instructor, Meredith Beckman couldn’t have been more proud. “My Business Communications students exceeded my expectations for Casino Night. They came together as a team and pulled off a fun, well organized charity event. I am very proud of each and every one of my students.”
