R.E.A.C.H a Child is a nonprofit organization based in Madison, WI which focuses on providing backpacks full of children’s books for first responder to give to children who experienced a traumatic event, such as a fire, accident or domestic disturbance. In addition to helping boost literacy, this effort also serves as a crime prevention tool as the book distribution creates a positive relationship between local officers and children in the community.

Scott Miller, president of GBA explained the purpose behind this fundraiser. “Paul was a guest speaker in my career capstone class, and I thought it was an amazing program. I discussed it with the business and accounting student organization members and we decided to go forward and develop this fundraiser. The concept of R.E.A.C.H. a Child is one that few people think about. When children are in a tragic event such as a fire or accident, by having first responders providing them a book it helps create a positive environment which helps them. Also, it will help children with boosting literacy. Helping children is always something I stand behind so this was a great opportunity.” Scott added, “I would like to see three hundred books donated from our campus, even more as humanly possible is my ultimate goal.”
Paul Gilbertson, co-founder and CEO of R.E.A.C.H a Child expressed his appreciation in Globe University’s involvement. “I’m excited about Globe University-Madison West partnering with R.E.A.C.H a Child in helping us continue to expand our mission to help kids in crisis with the gift of literacy. I like to thank Globe University in taking the time to reach out to us and making that effort to work with us. If everyone were to do one significant thing each year, together we can change the world.”
