10 Easy Stress Busters to Help You Sparkle

balance, stress, lifeIn thinking about the season upon us I thought sharing my favorite stress relieving techniques may be beneficial.  Not only is it the holiday season but many students in school are wrapping up their quarters or semester just adding to the seasonal stress.

For anyone who doesn’t know me, my main goals in life are to create balance and be happy every day. Part of doing this is keeping my stress in check.  Some days these are the easiest goals in the world. Then there are days when balance and happiness seems to be sprinting away from me and I have to do everything possible to catch them.

10 ways to bring the happy back and bring at least a bit of balance to the stressful moments in life

1.  Make your bed every day:

When my life feels like it is cluttered and chaos is exploding around me, there is nothing like crawling into a made bed. I can control how my bed looks, a made bed never disappoints.  It is also a great way to start the day. You know one part of your life is put into check.

2.       Breathing

When life is crushing you, STOP! Place feet flat on the ground, close eyes. Picture the place, person or thing that makes you happiest. Inhale deep into the belly through your nostrils to the count of 7. Exhale slowly through your mouth. Do 10 times.  You have just taken a mini vacation.  This takes 2 minutes so I know you have time and you will feel so much better. Try this the next time your day seems to be tumbling down on you.

3.       Snuggle with your pet or a loved onehug, pets, stress

Touch is an awesome way to de-stress and melt away the craziness of the moment.  Just a few moments and the happy hormones are released and making you feel better.

A hug can do the trick too. 

stress, pepper4.       Have an orange, grapefruit or a bell pepper.

All of these are high in vitamin C.  This helps to lower the stress hormones in your body and feel better so you will be able to concentrate again.

5.       Laugh Out Loud

Laughing releases stress and helps to initiate the happy hormones.  Pop in a comedy after a long day. If you need a break during the day watch a funny YouTube video to lighten a mood.  Share a joke with someone. You get to laugh and so does another person, perhaps you help their day too.

6.       Stop what you are doing and step out into the sunsun, stress

Sunshine is the best way to get your vitamin D. We need it to be happy, besides a mini break can sometimes organize the chaos in your head.

7.       Do a Random Act of Kindness

Do something randomly nice for a friend or a stranger. You can even do it anonymously. Helping another can lighten your mood.  It actually activates your happy hormones therefore reducing stress.  Remember it doesn’t have to be grandiose.  Your act of kindness could be simple as holding a door for someone. 
 
8.       Have a cup of tea

Chamomile has stress relieving properties but even green tea can activate relaxation. It can come from the warmth and the aroma to help reset your nervous system.  Enjoy with a friend and it may even contribute more to finding balance in the day.

Have an upbeat mix of songs that make you want to dance and sing at the top of your lungs.  This will release all sorts of stress. One song may do it or maybe you will need two.  Don’t forget to shake your bootie too. Exercise releases the happy hormones to help you balance out your life.  I LOVE doing this! I will cook dinner, dance and sing.  By the time I am done the craziness of the day or week have dissipated into thin air.  I have also been known to take a break in an empty classroom and bust a move for a song.  Try it and don’t worry what anyone thinks this is about you and feeling fabulous and stress free!

10.   SMILE!!

My favorite! It is easy and it is free!  Smiling is less work than a frown. It takes 43 muscles to frown and only 17 to smile.  AND
