Globe University Massage Therapy Students Paint the Mall Pink

by Tina Simunek, Massage Therapy Program ChairPaint the Mall Pink, massage therapy

Globe University-Sioux Falls massage therapy students participated this year in the Paint the Mall Pink event to help support breast cancer awareness. The Empire Mall and the Avera McKennan Foundation sponsored the event.

Globe University massage students Shane Kramer, Nicole Mills and Anne Burch helped to make this event a success! Paint the Mall Pink was the first event of the quarter where our students volunteered their time to give chair massages and paraffin hand waxes to the public. The outcome was amazing!

At Globe University we teach nine different modalities in the massage therapy program. These include Swedish, Hot Stone & Spa Techniquies, Myofascial, Deep Tissue/Trigger Point, Sports, Thai/Energy Work, Craniosacral/Lymphatic Drainage Therapies, and Pregnancy/Special Populations. This provides a more uniquie and comprehensive approach to the study and application of massage therapy.

These  the techniques are necessary to become a successful massage therapist. Our students are afforded the opportunity to  work with community partners around the Sioux Falls area through applied learning situations such as Paint the Mall Pink. Our massage students gain the hands on knowledge by exposure and experience.

Mall massageBecause our students are willing to go above and beyond the traditional education, every single one of our massage students are in high demand once they enter the  workforce after graduation.

We have more opportunities ahead to engage in hands-on learning, including the Blue Star Event on Nov. 3.

Active Generations, along with numerous community partners are pleased to be hosting the 2nd Annual event for Blue Star Families.  A Blue Star family is a family that currently has a loved one serving in the military, Guards or Reserves.  Currently there are approximately 2,400 service members in the Sioux Falls area.  Each service member brings with them families – spouse, children, parents, brothers and sisters – that make up our Sioux Falls community.

On Saturday, Nov. 3, Active Generations will be honoring these families for their sacrifices. This is a day that all of Sioux Falls can show our appreciation and support of these families.   This event will be held at Active Generations in Sioux Falls and is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

This event features:
