Congratulations to Akisa Kabacinski, Globe University – Green Bay’s May Student of the Month! Akisa is in the massage therapy program and is truly proud of her accomplishment of becoming a student ambassador for the massage therapy program. She was nominated for not only being a great student but also being a mentor who has shown dedication not only to Globe University and fellow students but to massage therapy as well.
Akisa received a certificate, was featured on a bulletin board on campus and social media, and best of all – received a front-row parking spot for the entire month.
Learn more about Akisa and her experience in the massage therapy program below:
Why did you choose the massage therapy program?
I chose the massage therapy program because I was really into giving back rubs and hand massages during high school to everyone and they always told me I was good at it, and I loved it so I went for it. Massage, to me, is a very unique way to help people that most don’t think about so I really liked the idea of going for something that not many people put a lot of thought into as how much it really can help and to be able to inform people about it.
Why did you choose Globe University?
I chose Globe University because it’s close to home and they have a really big focus on the students. I really like that everyone is there whenever you need them to be. Also, it makes a huge difference that the student to instructor ratio isn’t overwhelming like at other colleges; massage therapy is a lot of hands on so it helps to have smaller classes.
Favorite part of the program?
My favorite part of the program would have to be having the public come in and get that opportunity to help them and watch them leave relaxed and happy.
Most interesting thing you have learned at Globe?
I think the most interesting thing that I’ve learned while being at Globe is that everyone that surrounds me is here to help, no matter who it is. In high school, it was never like that, so it was interesting to find out that anyone will take extra time to help however they can.
What you want potential students to know about Globe/Massage Therapy Program/going back to school in general?
I want potential students, or students in general, to know that they’re not alone. Going to school is a scary thing to begin with, and it’s even scarier going through it alone. They just need to know they don’t have to do it on their own; there’s always someone there to help.
What do you do to stay motivated?
In order to keep myself motivated, I always keep my end goal in mind. There have been a few classes and quarters where I honestly wanted to give up, but I knew it would be worth it in the end if I didn’t. I’m always thinking about where I want to be after I graduate and there’s no way I could reach any of my goals if I gave up.
Who are your biggest supporters with school and why?
Everyone supports me with what I chose to do with my life, but ultimately I think my biggest supporter is my oldest sister, Amanda. She’s always been there to be my guinea pig and give her opinion or just be there for moral support.
What are you most proud of so far academically?
Currently, I am most proud of becoming the student ambassador for the massage therapy program. I remember going through orientation with the last ambassador and him telling us that it “could be” one of us as the next one but none of us thought it actually would be because we were new to the school and program, so it seemed out of the picture.
What has been your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge has been making extra time for others. I go to school and work full-time, so it’s hard to find open time to be with my family or friends, but that’s the thing with having such amazing people surrounding you; they understand.
What do you do for fun?
There’s really no time to do anything for fun right now, but when I do find the time I love to spend it with my favorite people. I usually just hang out with my family and friends and my cats.
If you could spend 24 hours with anyone, who would it be and why?
If I could spend 24 hours with anyone, it would probably be Ellen DeGeneres. She has been one of my favorite people since the first time I saw her show, and ever since then everything she does just makes me so proud to be a fan.
