New Business, New Career, New Opportunities – Globe University Graduate Gets in on the Ground Floor

Written by Samuel Fisher, director of career services

There is a new business in Eau Claire Wisconsin. And with new businesses comes new careers and new opportunities. This is exactly what Globe University-Eau Claire trains their graduates for. Dawn Barylski is a graduate of the medical assistant program at Globe and is a certified medical assistant at the brand new All Lab Tests Fast in Eau Claire.

Started by Rich and Joanne Palzkill, All Lab Tests Fast opened with one goal in mind, to provide patients with an alternative, cost-effective option for their laboratory testing. They pride themselves on their accuracy, convenience, and most of all, affordability. Affordability is important to all the staff, including Dawn. Dawn is excited to be helping those in her community. It is this desire to help that led her into the medical field.

At their recent ribbon cutting event, Rich addressed the attendees, also sharing with them his desire to help. He mentioned how they partner with local physicians to help patients that are on a budget get the testing they need. They also work with employers to provide tests for employees and are looking into offering mobile testing options for those that are unable to travel. Dawn is an integral member of the All Lab Tests Fast team, as she has been with the company since before the doors opened.

At a recent visit to campus, Dawn came to share her success story with future medical assistant graduates. Dawn said, “I had the interview for the position within a week of graduation. I was there when it was just an empty building, and now we are open for business.”

In looking back on her program, she credits coursework in phlebotomy and administration as being the most helpful on the job. She also gained much of her experience while completing her medical externship with Mayo Clinic in the quarter before graduation.

Career Services Coordinator Alexandra Randall credits Dawn’s quick career success to the collaboration between Dawn, Medical Assistant Program Chair Gretchen Johnson, and the career services department. “We are proud of Dawn and all that she has accomplished. It is her going above and beyond attitude that makes her a great medical assistant.”
