Geralyn McGregor was recognized as Graduate of the Winter 2013 Quarter. McGregor graduated from Globe University-Woodbury in 2006 with her Associate in Applied Science degree in medical assisting.
Since graduation, she has worked in pediatrics at HealthEast Care System in Maplewood, Minn., for five years before moving to the Woodbury, Minn., clinic for the past two years. McGregor explains the majority of her current job duties include rooming patients, drawing blood, and giving injections. According to her co-workers she is the go-to girl for blood draws.
“Before attending Globe University I didn’t know what I wanted to do for a career until my father suggested the medical field,” said McGregor. “Then, one of my friends started in the medical assisting program at Globe University and I decided to just jump right into the program as well.”
She comments that she chose Globe University because of the fun activities on campus, the hands-on training and most importantly she appreciated how the instructors were always willing to help and answer any questions.
“The hands-on learning in the classroom along with my externship gave me the skill-set and confidence needed to be a great medical assistant,” McGregor says. She continues to note that when she was looking for a position in medical assisting she found her computer skills learned in the classroom were a great asset as well.
McGregor’s Advice: Take full advantage of the resources Globe University provides you. Also, learn as much as you can from your externship. Ask for more duties so you can learn all of the aspects of working in the medical industry.
Globe University’s medical assisting program landed McGregor in the field of her dreams. She aspires to become a lead at HealthEast and has recently had some opportunities to do so.
