Maybee I Want to Learn More about John (No, That’s Not a Typo)

A few months ago, Globe University-Minneapolis welcomed a new admissions representative to their team. John Maybee not only has a great name, but also a great story. Check it out!

John Maybee

Who are you, and where did you come from?

I am John Maybee. I grew up in Des Moines and the surrounding areas in Iowa.  I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Wartburg College, and I was involved in student leadership throughout.

Tell us about your career journey before you came here to Globe-Minneapolis.

I was an orientation staff leader at Wartburg College while I was completing my degree with them. I then moved on to being a booking agent at Ageless Beauty Model Management here in the cities. After this, I spent just under two years moving up the ladder at Mattress Firm, going from a manager in training/sales associate to a head store manager and the district trainer for all of the Minnesota Mattress Firms.  After this, I decided to pursue my passion and become an admissions representative. This is when Globe University came into the picture and allowed me to pursue my passions.

What excites you most about being an admissions representative for Globe University-Minneapolis?

Working with students with a sincere desire to further their education and get necessary job training in a diverse setting. Also, I am very excited to work on the great team of staff and faculty at our downtown Minneapolis location.

What words of advice do you have for potential students as they get started with their education at Globe University?

Furthering your education is 100 percent worth it. Education can open doors you never thought were there, and gives people a lot more flexibility and the ability to enter a career they are passionate about.

What are some hobbies and activities you enjoy?

I have always loved playing basketball, but my favorite activity is currently going to different music concerts/shows. I love going to multiple venues and getting to take in the entire experience of music and the environment in which it is performed.

What is your favorite thing about Minnesota?

The constant ability to be active and involved. Whether it means I am going to a lake for a relaxing day, going to a concert that one of my favorite bands is in, attending a sporting event, or just enjoying a meal at one of the many amazing restaurants, I constantly find myself enjoying this great state and finding new opportunities around every corner.

What is your favorite movie?

I love the movie Life of Pi, but I would have to say my all-time favorite is The Graduate.

Who is your favorite band?

This is always a hard question for me, because my answer changes at least once a week, but I would currently have to go with the group “Alt-J.”

Why is working at Globe University the best job in the world (yes, this is a known fact—we just want to see how you explain it)?

Working at Globe University is the best job ever, not only due to the welcoming staff and faculty that I get to be a part of, but also because I get to work with students and help students uncover their passions. This job allows me to work with the passions of others while utilizing my personal passions to give students the best recommendation and experience possible.
