Welcome to a new quarter and a new year: 2012!

Greetings everyone: welcome to Winter Quarter and the year 2012! What a great way to start off a new year by starting off a new quarter of classes. Since many people make new year’s resolutions, we wanted to offer some tips for goal setting and making those resolutions stick! Here are some things you can do to ensure that you are meeting the goals you are setting:

1) Be realistic: Make sure that you are setting goals you can attain. Goals can be something challenging, but ensure that you are not being too hard on yourself by setting an outrageous goal! What is more discouraging than thinking you won’t be able to reach a goal you just set? Ensure that you are setting yourself up for success!

2) Don’t be afraid to ask for help: When it comes to reaching your goals, make sure that you utilize all of your resources, especially here on campus! We are here to help. Join a study group, visit the resource center, ask a classmate, work with your instructor! All of these are options to help you be successful inside and outside of class.

3) Plan ahead: When visualizing your goals, make sure that you prepare yourself for bumps you may encounter along the way. Don’t forget to ask yourself “what if” so you can stay on track with your goal! Don’t let a bump in the road completely derail you from your goal.

When setting goals, use the SMART method!

Remember: SMART goals are the way to go! Happy 2012 and we wish you all the best this year! (*and don’t forget to see a member of the Education Department by Friday if you need to make any changes to your Winter Quarter 2012 schedule!)
