Making the decision to attend an online school can be a difficult one for some. Many students are trepidatious about how much contact and support they will receive from their instructors and classmates and whether they’ll be able to find the time to complete their assignments on top of their already busy work/life schedules.
So, Globe University-Online asked its current students about some of their biggest concerns or fears they had before starting class and compiled their responses here. Here are the top five myths when it comes to attending class online:
1. “If I have questions, I won’t be able to get in touch with my teacher to ask questions.”
At Globe University, our instructors are expected to respond to student questions or emails within 24 hours of their inquiry. Instructors also hold weekly “office hours” where they are available for live chats and phone calls for students to ask questions. On top of all that, many instructors will release their personal phone numbers to students, in the case of an emergency.
2. “I won’t have any interaction with other students or my classmates.”
Actually, Globe’s online classes have been designed to allow students easy access to their classmates. In fact, in every course there are discussion boards where students check in twice a week to offer their take on the week’s assigned readings or to post general questions they may have about the upcoming assignment. In addition, several of our courses utilize group projects or other team building assignments that help students build connections both personally and professionally.
3. “I’m not good at math and I’m nervous that I won’t understand my assignments.”
This is one of the most common fears among students, especially when it comes to math. Math can be difficult to learn and apply in an online format, but with Globe’s sister schools, Minnesota School of Business and Broadview University, online students can go into any of our 30 residential campuses and use the resources there. We also have FREE tutors available to all of our students along with a host of other student services!
4. “I’m not very tech savvy, and I don’t think I’ll be able to access and find all of my assignments.”
Globe University utilizes an online learning management system called Campus Connect. Campus Connect has been specially designed for easy access and navigation to all of Globe’s learning resources. It is essentially a one-stop shop for any and all of your learning materials from the library to your student email.
5. “I won’t be able to find a job after graduation.”
Our career services staff has dedicated themselves to helping each and every one of our online students obtain employment after graduation! In fact, they’ll help you get employed for the rest of your life—no joke! Globe University has made it our mission to provide lifetime career services to students and graduates of our programs.
