It’s Who You Know: Alumni Connect at Networking Event

Alumni nosh on free food while they connect with others.

Last Thursday marked the second annual Globe University-Online division alumni networking event. The event was held at Maple Tavern in Maple Grove, Minn., and was attended by eight alumni and four staff members.

The event kicked off at 5:30 p.m. and alumni were greeted with free food and soda, all while having the chance to sit and chat with other alumni like themselves. Many of the discussions started out with small talk, but as I sat listening to the various conversations, I noticed them all starting to go in a similar direction: JOBS.

Some alumni are currently working in their field of choice and were enthusiastic to share their success with their peers, while others who may still be looking for employment, eagerly asked questions and asked if their peers had any tips for how to land their dream job.

The career services staff was also on hand should any of the alums have questions about what Globe University can do for them during their job search.

As a college student (especially an online one) it’s really up to you to take the initiative and start building those contact networks and other professional connections. In fact, research has shown that there is a 50 percent chance that these professional contacts will lead to your next job. This was seen almost immediately at the alumni event as invitations to connect on LinkedIn and business cards were shared with nearly everyone in attendance.

There are several upcoming events for current and active students so be sure to keep an eye on our blog and Facebook pages for the details!
