As we hit the ground running during our first week of classes, I wanted to take a moment to introduce all of our students to the newest instructor to join the Globe University-Online team. Silvia Graham will be leading our Online Spanish courses, and she comes to us with an educational background in Spanish and English, as well as extensive teaching experience.
So, without further ado, I present to you, Ms. Silvia Graham:
I am thrilled to be part of Globe. I hold a B.A. with a double major: Spanish and Education from University of Texas-San Antonio. I earned both my M.A. in English with a minor in Spanish and a Doctorate in Education Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M Commerce.
I have experience teaching in a variety of formats: on-ground, online and hybrid. I have taught a variety of disciplines, prominent among them English, Spanish and education. I am currently teaching English and education courses both on-site and online for different institutions.
One thing about me that I consider to be unique is my solid experience in the field of education. I have taught both in national and international settings. Working with culturally and linguistically diverse students is my area of expertise. My doctoral degree has opened new paths and perspectives in my life. I am planning to apply all the knowledge I have gained to facilitate the learning process in all my courses.
My main goal as an instructor is to be a facilitator. I do believe learning is constructed, not passed on. I plan to foster active involvement so you can be the main protagonist of your learning process. Active participation is the essence of online learning. Learning is social in nature. The more we interact, the more significant our learning will be. This course will provide plenty of opportunities to be actively involved while we sharpen our critical thinking skills.
In regard to my professional goals, my most immediate plans involve engaging in professional writing. I am currently exploring various outlets to publish my third article. Also, I want to continue being a lifelong learner. Having an inquisitive mind and a continuous desire to learn is part of my nature.
