Online Librarians Teach Screencasting at Minnesota Library Association Conference

Last week Elaine Settergren and Alyssa Novak, the librarians for the Globe Education Network Online Division, presented at the Minnesota Library Association Conference.

The annual conference provides librarians across Minnesota with new ideas and tools to stay up-to-date, innovate, and succeed in the library profession.

The Online Librarians’ presentation, entitled, “Screencasting: Launch a Virtual Library Instruction Program,” taught conference participants how to use screencasting software to create videos to enhance library services. Elaine and Alyssa create and embed screencast videos in online courses to show students how to navigate the many resources available in the Globe Education Network Online Library. The videos help students identify quality sources for completing their research assignments.

In the presentation, Elaine and Alyssa demonstrated relevant software and discussed other considerations in starting a virtual library instruction program, including accessibility issues and methods for ongoing review and maintenance.

The librarians who attended the session learned plenty of tips and tricks to begin offering screencasts at their libraries.
