Staff Spotlight: Jaclyn Oscarson

Jaclyn Oscarson, an Online Division employee, shares her story about her experience with Minnesota School of Business/Globe University as a student and an employee.  We hope you enjoy her story.

When I came to MSB in 1999 I was a single mother of a 1 year old, scared and had no idea what I wanted to do with my life.  My time here at MSB in the A.A.S Business Admin program was amazing. I was a decent high school student and got by but I had no idea the things I had in me.  The all-nighters I pulled to complete assignments, while at some points of school working 2 jobs.  My family was supportive and helpful and the reason why I found the drive to continue on and complete my degree.  In Winter of 2002 I graduated! While I was here I was President of the Student Council and even received a special gift at graduation and for the first time in years I saw the real looks of pride and relief on my parents face because they knew how hard I had worked to graduate.

If we fast forward several years to 2009 I was with a company that was closing its doors due to the economy.  There I was back in that terrifying spot of trying to figure out how I was going to support myself and my son in a declining economy.  One day while searching for jobs I came across a posting for a position with Globe Education Network Online. I felt something weird when I read through that posting like that job was just meant for me and I had to do whatever I needed to get it. I got a call from the hiring manager and we scheduled an interview when I came into the building I had spent so many hours I had this strange feeling of being home.  That interview was one of the scariest ones I had ever been on, and I had been on dozens over the last few months.  There I was sitting in a room with the Campus Director, the Director of Financial Aid and some supporting staff, I was so nervous I had sweat through my shirt and I knew that and I hoped they didn’t.  I at one point remember thinking please let me get this job, the people in that room were speaking to something in me that had never been spoken to before.  Well the good news is I did get the job I started right away and have been here 3 years now.

Globe Education Network gave me something that is priceless they gave me the skills and confidence I needed to find employment.  For the last 3 years every day I love my job more and more and it is truly my home. Last week I applied for a new position within the company and I could not be happier with the outcome because of the things GEN has taught me I got that job too.

Minnesota School of Business/Globe University truly cares about their students and employees.  Each and every day I am thankful for the opportunities I have been given and I know that I would not have had them if I had not found MSB.
