We Care: Globe U Staff Gives Back to Mothers In Need

As an expectant mother  myself, I know firsthand how daunting having a baby can be. Not only do you have a new little baby to care for, you also have to buy a large amount of supplies to keep them fed, clothed, safe and healthy. For many new mothers, buying the basic needs for their child can be a struggle.

That is where Babies Need Boxes comes in. Babies Need Boxes is a non-profit organization that provides a box filled with many of the basic items an infant will need to young mothers. From diapers to burp clothes, the box has all of the basics covered.

One of the most valuable items is the box itself. The box actually doubles as a bassinet and comes with a mattress, sheet and safe sleeping literature. The mission behind Babies Needs Boxes is to decrease infant mortality rates of infants with young and vulnerable mothers.

These boxes can help reduce a young mother’s stress by providing her with the basic needs so she can then focus on her newborn child.

When I heard about Babies Need Boxes I knew I wanted to organize a donation drive for the Globe University-Online campus.  As an organization we continually show that “We Care” for our surrounding communities. I felt that Babies Need Boxes perfectly aligned with our mission. So for two weeks, we hosted a reverse baby shower. Instead of showering an expecting friend or family member with wrapped gifts, we collected as many unwrapped items as we could to be be shared with mothers-to-be that we have never met.

Many people are fortunate to have a baby shower, and my hope was that those people who have been showered would take a turn and shower those in need! I was not disappointed, Globe University staff was able to provide many valuable baby supplies to Babies Need Boxes.

After meeting Danielle Selassie, the executive director of Babies Need Boxes, you could feel her passion for providing help for vulnerable mothers. I am grateful that there are so many staff members at Globe University who gave back to this wonderful organization.
