Introducing the newest member of the paralegal degree program at Globe University-Madison East, faculty member Dan Schaps!Dan comes to us all the way from sunny Florida, where he has lived his entire life. He has a B.A. in history and economics from the University of Miami and a juris doctor from the University of Florida. While Dan attended law school, he was a member of the Florida Law Review and a teacher’s assistant for legal research and writing and appellate advocacy.
After law school, Dan practiced law for six years in Tampa, Florida. Originally, he worked for the firm of Holland & Knight and later branched out into a solo practice. Much of Dan’s practice involved construction law, but he also has experience in many other areas of law including criminal defense, bankruptcy, debtor/creditor relations, maritime, family, intellectual property, and business law. Feel free to ask him about his “war stories” from the field.
Dan loves sports, especially football and baseball, and he is learning to be a Packers fan. He also enjoys the outdoors, reading, and being around interesting people. Dan’s family still lives in Florida, and he has a nephew who would like to visit Wisconsin so that he can build a snowman. Dan says he’s very excited to be in Wisconsin, and that he definitely wants to learn to ice skate.
Dan enjoyed the intellectual challenge of law school and the “give and take” in the classroom. Both of his parents are teachers, so you might say that teaching runs in the family. It certainly seems to come naturally to Dan. He came highly recommended from another of our fabulous instructors, David Vitse. Dan says that he appreciates his students because they are attentive and they care about learning the material, even when that material is very complex.
We are so pleased to have Dan as a member of our faculty, and I hope that you will get the chance to get to know him. Let’s help him adjust to his first Wisconsin winter with a warm welcome to Globe University!
