Winter Quarter was a big quarter for Globe University Sioux Falls. Students were very active on campus and off campus. We had over 100 students involved with service-learning projects in 17 different classes which totaled over 600 hours benefited the community. This was not the only thing happening throughout the quarter. We had various field trips, guest speakers, student organization events, fundraisers, and celebrations.
One of the things we need to celebrate is the awards we have received as a campus and as individuals. We can start with celebrating events of our Globe Education Network Holiday Party. At this wonderful event we were graced to have two very special members of our team be awarded. Cheryl Wilson was honored with our Staff Member of the Year. Cheryl, with her bubbly personality, is our Student Accounts Representative. She works with students on payments but that isn’t it, she also brings to our campus positive energy, a friendly face, her We Care attitude and wonderful smiles. You can’t forget the splash of purple either. Abby Roberts was chosen at the 2011 Faculty Member of the Year. Abby is a full time instructor in our Veterinary Technology program. She has been described as a true champion of the program. Abby is a wonderfully engaging instructor who always has a smile and is highly organized and listens to all our student’s needs.
Not only were these members of our team honored at the holiday party, we also received Most Improved Campus. This award is not for the building, but for the entire group of individuals that are here. We have great faculty, staff, and students. There have been a lot of happenings in the last year and all the hard work has shown and truly paid off.
At the holiday party, GU Sioux Falls also received Service-Learning Project of the Year 2011. The award is in honor of the effort our MA students and faculty put into their project with the National Kidney Foundation’s KEEP event. This is a very special honor and the second year Globe University Sioux Falls has received this award.
Now with all these awards you would think that would be it right? Nope, we also have our We Care Awards. This award is granted to one student and one community member that has embodied our We Care Mission. This quarter, the National Kidney Foundation received the We Care Community Partner Award. This stems from the KEEP event as well as them working with our students and other campuses truly embracing our We Care Mission. Gene, who is a member of the South Dakota Board, accepted the award on behalf of the National Kidney Foundation. Cassandra Dominguez received the student We Care Award. Cassandra is currently a student in our Medical Assistant Program. She has been a key member of her program and has truly shown her We Care attitude with all the events she has helped with and planned.
Congratulations on all the hard work that everyone at the Sioux Falls campus has put forth. As you can see, it truly pays off and we have an award winning campus.
