Children Step into the Vet Tech Classroom

Local day care visits college campus to learn about animals

Introduction to Veterinary Technology students at Globe University–Woodbury demonstrated their animal knowledge by inviting children from Stepping Stones Early Learning Center to the campus to teach them more about animals and the care they need.
Instructor Melanie Dittmann explained that students and children alike benefitted from the experience.

“We usually go to the places and have the students teach the children animal care,” Dittmann said. “This time, we invited the kids to the campus so the students could use their hands-on experience to teach the children how to listen to a dog’s heart in the actual lab and so the kids could actually see what a vet tech does. There was a major sense of pride I saw in my students that day when they got to use their skills they learned in the classroom and apply them to teach a child more about animals.”

Dittmann explained that learning out of a book is one way to teach a student. However, teaching what students learn to children in a hands-on environment is an effective technique necessary to instill the quality education Globe University delivers.

Stepping Stones Early Learning Center is a local and privately owned day care, preschool and all-day kindergarten located in Woodbury, Minn.
