January 16th is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It has also been named Martin Luther King Day of Service. Globe University, Eau Claire has two opportunities to serve the community as part of this observance.
On Sunday, January 15th, Globe University students are participating in a service activity with the American Red Cross in Eau Claire by distributing fire safety and prevention information to residents in some “at risk” neighborhoods in the community. All volunteers will attend a training session. The students and volunteers will then go door to door talking with residents about the importance of smoke detectors, emergency escape routes, and general safety habits.
On Monday, January 16th Globe University staff and students are also encouraged to join two other campuses and the community to observe the national Martin Luther King Day of Service. Staff and students from Globe University, Chippewa Valley Technical College, and University of Wisconsin of Eau Claire are joining forces to serve others in our community. Staff and students from the three campuses as well as other community members will meet at Noon at the Community Table for a free lunch and orientation. The participants will break into service groups to paint at a local women’s shelter, sort donations at a homeless shelter, and sort food donations at the Feed My People Food Bank.
