Massage Therapy Students Host Spa Night to Ease Holiday Stress

Many people get stressed during the holidays. For some, it’s the list of things they need to do—baking, cooking, cleaning, shopping, wrapping, etc. For others, family gatherings bring extra stress. Whatever the reason may be, holidays and stress go hand in hand. To help alleviate some of this stress, students and faculty in the massage therapy program at Globe University–Madison East decided to host a Holiday Spa Night.

The event was held at the East Madison Community Center where the massage therapy program hosts a free monthly massage clinic. Students in the Hot Stone Massage/Spa Techniques class helped organized the event so they could apply some of the techniques they had learned in class.

The event featured chair massages, neck and facial massages with aromatherapy, foot reflexology, hand and arm massages with paraffin dip, and salt foot scrubs. Besides these hands-on procedures, guests enjoyed holiday treats, hot apple cider, and soothing holiday music. They were even able to create their own body scrubs to take home with them.

“I really enjoy the work that we do for the East Madison Community Center. It shows me that I really did choose the right career path,” said massage therapy student Nicole Wild.  “Everyone was so pleased that all of the options we were offering were free, and it was hard for them to believe that it really was just for us to gain experience.”

Massage therapy student Teresa Bennett said, “It is awesome to reach out to people sharing my gift of massage. It always puts a smile on my face when I can put a smile on some else’s face.”
