Pets Need Manicures Too

Globe University Sioux Falls Vet Tech students once again teamed up to host a nail trimming and dental check clinic at Your Pet Stop this quarter. Students enrolled in VT 105, Introduction to Veterinary Technology and VT 292, Application of Advanced Veterinary Clinical Skills hosted two clinics open to the public. The first clinic was held Saturday February 18 and the second clinic was Saturday February 25th.

This is the third quarter these types of clinics have been offered to the public. This quarter there was roughly 75 people in attendance. The students were able to practice their knowledge gained in their courses while assisting the public and providing a great service to a locally owned pet store, Your Pet Stop, which recently opened its second location here in Sioux Falls.
VT 105 student Jacky Vasek described her experience by stating “I thought that the volunteering to help clip nails was beneficial to my education. I learned how to clip black colored nails which I was very nervous about beforehand.” VT 292 student Chailee Davidson stated “this was a fun way to get outside school and into the community to practice our nail trim and dental check skills in a real world atmosphere.”

The students were able to help to educate the public while providing a free service and increasing their skills. Your Pet Stop is also pleased to provide this service to the public and wants to plan another clinic as well and branch out to their second location to offer more training opportunities for the students and the community.
