A Little Giving Can Go a Long Way: Vet Tech Students Helps Teens in Need

Written by Morgan Dums, veterinary technology student and student ambassador

This year marked Aeropostale’s fifth annual Teens for Jeans drive. This is a company-wide project that partners with DoSomething.org to help teens in need.  Every year I have been with the company, we set a store goal of how many pairs of jeans we would like to donate to local shelters who are in need of jeans. This year our Wausau Center store set our goal for 500 pairs, our largest goal yet! We were determined to reach it.

Once we set our goal, we reached out to local schools, churches, family members, friends and customers in the store to help reach our goal. We reached out to local schools like John Muir Middle School, Wausau West, Wausau East and Newman Catholic. Elcho and Tomahawk high schools heard about the drive and each brought in over 50 pairs of jeans, even though we didn’t reach out to them.

The Globe University–Wausau campus also joined the cause. I set up a donation box in the library and then reached out to my fellow classmates, student ambassadors and faculty on campus. Though there was a very short time frame for this collection, with the help of my classmates in the veterinary technology program and student ambassadors, word spread quickly. In just a little over a week, our campus community collected about 50 pairs of jeans for this great cause!

Within a few weeks, we blew our goal of 500 pairs of jeans out of the water. Our store’s final count was 775 pairs of jeans! Our team could not have been more thankful to everyone that helped us reach our goal. Doing something good for others makes you feel great the way it is, but knowing we have that much support behind us makes it that much better. So I would like to thank everyone at Globe University for your support and generosity. It means a lot to our team at Aero, but I cannot even begin to imagine what it means to those teens in need.
