Student Spotlight: Why Busy Isn’t an Excuse

Everyone, at some point, has used the “busy” excuse. For Kimberly Szozda, a medical assistant student who is graduating in June 2014, the impact of the word “busy” didn’t stop her from pursing higher education. Recently awarded “Student of the Month,” Kim spoke with me about the impact of her support system, advice for others, and why she chose Globe University-Appleton.

Balance and challenges

“My biggest challenge is time. I never feel that I have enough time to get everything done,” Kim said. Kim balances working, homework, attending her classes, caring for her family, and also volunteers at Theda Clark Medical Center. How does she manage to get it all done?

“Without my boyfriend, it wouldn’t be possible,” she shared.

Motivated to return to school

Kim admitted she was scared to go back to school.

“I was worried that I wasn’t going to be good enough. After the first few weeks, I realized that I can do this. I feel there was a big difference for me since I waited 10 years to go back to school after completing high school. The huge difference was that it was my choice to go to school now and not my parents forcing me to go. That gave me the feeling of satisfaction that I needed to continue to do well in school and show up every day for class on time.”

“I have set my goal to graduate and do better in school,” Kim said. “I am achieving that goal, and I am working harder than ever to make sure I succeed and reach that goal.”

Advice for future students

“Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Globe has great staff and faculty, along with great fellow students that I have had in my classes.

Always be willing to take the help from other people, and always be willing to help others if you can do so as well. It will help you in the long run.”

Why did you choose Globe University?

“I like the idea that classes are offered in the morning, afternoon, and evening. That gives you flexibility, and I really like the idea of them helping you find job placement after graduation,” Kim shared. “My experience was great. I never had any issues with scheduling classes because Globe has such a flexible schedule. I was able to maintain a full-time day job and go to class at night. They are there to help you succeed.

I chose Globe because it made me feel good about myself and made me feel that I would be able to graduate and have all the skills that I would need for graduation. It made me feel I would be ready for the next step in my future after completing my education at Globe.”
