Your third and fourth years of college

The Media Business bachelor’s degree program builds on the technical preparation represented by your associate degree. You will take two years of upper division business courses, technical electives, media-related studies and general education courses.

When you graduate, you will have a broad knowledge of business principles as they relate to the media industry and of the ways in which media professionals serve organizations. Depending on your specific interests and skills, you may look forward to careers in a variety of areas.

Media professionals in business and marketing

Media is a broad term that refers to various means of communication. The Internet, digital videos, music, television, radio, newspapers, billboards and direct mail are all forms of multimedia. A business professional with strong technical skills and an understanding of the roles of various media in an industry can look forward to rewarding, high-paying career options. Media-related business activities include Internet marketing and advertising, media planning and coordination, public opinion research and sales.

Careers in media production

Every corporation, small business, government agency, educational institution or other type of organization relies on media to spread its message. To do so effectively, they need  media production specialists whose technical skills are enhanced by fundamental business training, strong general communication skills and a broad base of general knowledge.

Our Bachelor’s in Media Business degree program provides that complex skill set. As a graduate, you will be well-prepared for in-house positions in corporations or to succeed as an independent contractor. Production activities include video conferencing, video editing, audio/video coordination and installation, audio engineering, graphic design, digital imaging and general media services.

Core requirements for the Media Business Bachelor’s degree

When you are admitted to the program, you will already have two years of technical and general training. You will then complete two years of upper division courses, including  68 credits in technical studies, business skills, and the role of multimedia in business. You will also complete 25 credits in general education, honing your communication and critical thinking skills and developing your general knowledge base.

Media business capstone course

In your final quarter of studies, you will take the Media Capstone, where you put into practice skills you have learned in previous coursework: entrepreneurial techniques, marketing, promotion, writing for the Internet and other specific media, and creation of a business plan in your specific technical area.
