Health Fitness Specialist Certifications
Health Fitness Specialist programs at Globe University provide rigorous training, preparing students for some of the strongest industry certifications available. All graduates of our bachelor’s degree and associate degree programs are qualified to sit for the Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) exams offered by ACSM and NSCA as well as for NASM and ACE certifications.
In addition to those general certifications, students in our
Bachelor’s in Health Fitness Specialist degree program can take elective seminars that lead to two highly regarded specialty certifications:
Some employers include those certifications as requirements for hire, advancement and higher pay scales.

The strongest credential—a college degree
Clients and employers want to see strong credentials, confirmation of your ability to evaluate and prescribe exercise routines that help clients achieve health, fitness and wellness goals.
Health fitness is an unregulated industry, and not all personal training certifications, exercise science certificates and related credentials demonstrate actual competence. In fact, with a credit card and a few minutes online, anyone can become a “certified personal trainer.”
For that reason, the most powerful credential remains a college degree in health fitness or exercise science. Globe University offers 4-year and 2-year degrees, each available at certain Minnesota campus locations and through our Health Fitness Online program. Fitness professionals with prior training may be able to test out of up to 75% of coursework for either program.
Depending on your personal career goals, a personal trainer certification issued by a well-respected organization such as ACSM, NSCA , NASM or ACE or certificates in specific technical modalities such as Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) Jumpstart and Resistance Training Specialist (RTS) will be powerful additions to your resume.
MAT Jumpstart
The Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) (
www.muscleactivation.com) Jumpstart program trains students to recognize imbalances in body alignment and eliminate muscle weakness that may lead to injury. This program, approved by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) for CECs, teaches students the principles of human physiology and biomechanics. Students in the bachelor’s degree program may participate in the MAT Jumpstart program, levels 1 through 3.
Resistance Training Specialist (RTS)
Resistance Training Specialist (
www.resistancetrainingspecialist.com) is an organization that provides advanced training in the application of exercise mechanics. Courses offered through RTS provide students with training in the concepts of functional training. Students enrolled in the bachelor’s degree program in health fitness specialist will have the option of attending hands-on RTS seminars 1 (
Strategies, Precision and the Functional Continuum), 2 (
Strategic Resistance) and 3 (
The Exercise Experience) that lead to RTS certification.
