Accounting Certifications and Exam Preparation

Accounting certifications assure employers and clients that you have current skills in a specific specialty. This is a powerful advantage in the job market. For that reason, Globe University builds certification exam preparation into accounting degree programs. And our Certification Exam Scholarship program helps qualified students with exam fees.

Below are summaries of accounting certifications. Please contact a college representative for details about exam preparation within each program.   

CPA exam and license

The Bachelor of Science in Accounting program prepares graduates to take the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam in Minnesota, and the MBA accounting concentration can be applied to the course credit requirement. Each state’s Board of Accountancy has different rules. If it is your goal to be a CPA, research your state’s rules carefully before enrolling in our program. Certified Management Accountant (CMA)

Certified Management Accountant (CMA) is a national certification held by many corporate managers and controllers. Our bachelor’s in accounting fulfills educational requirements. Certification also requires accounting experience and a passing score on the exam. Detailed information is available at www.Imanet.org.

Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)

A certified internal auditor (CIA) examines and evaluates a company’s financial and information systems, management procedures and internal controls for evidence of fraud and to ensure regulatory compliance. Our bachelor’s in accounting fulfills educational requirements for the CIA. More information is available from the Institute of Internal Auditors at www.theiia.org.

Accredited Business Accountant/Advisor (ABA)

The Accreditation Council for Accountancy and Taxation (ACAT) offers the Accredited Business Accountant/Advisor certification (ABA). The ABA requires three years of experience and a passing grade on the ABA exam.

Additional ACAT certifications: Accredited Tax Advisor (ATA) and Accredited Tax Preparer (ATP)

Enrolled Agent (EA) certification. An enrolled agent focuses on tax services for individuals and small businesses. An EA may be self-employed, work for the IRS or work for an accounting firm. Only EAs, CPAs and attorneys may represent taxpayers before the IRS. This accounting certification is regulated by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (I.R.S.).

Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) and Fundamental Payroll Certificate (FPC) is offered by American Payroll Association.

Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE). Students in our Fraud Examination course prepare for the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) exam.
