Support from Globe University Helps Medical Assistant Graduate Find Successful Career

After not being a student for nearly 20 years, Michelle Hanson went back to school to pursue a degree in medical assisting. She chose Globe University-La Crosse for its small class sizes and student resources. Even though she was a non-traditional student, Michelle says Globe University met her needs and helped her succeed.

“I enjoyed the fact that every part of the teaching and administrative staff all worked together to ensure the success of the students,” Michelle says.

Michelle also appreciated the real-world experience her instructors had, as well as their connections in the industry and local community.

“The best part of the program was that [many of] our instructors work in the medical field,” explains Michelle. “I was really able to apply not only what I learned from the material from the books, [but] the advice about using my new skill set in the work environment.”

Globe University’s faculty were also instrumental in helping Michelle jump-start her medical assistant career.

“My program chair did an outstanding job of pairing me up to a location for the clinical portion of my education,” Michelle says. “I was very lucky and I knew it, so I was able to really focus on learning as much as I could during the externship.”

That focus paid off. Michelle had not even begun applying to jobs when she was called in for an interview based on her success during her externship.

“I was hired on the spot two weeks prior to graduation,” she explains.

Michelle says the career services team were key in helping with her resume. She also received excellent support from the financial aid department.

“The knowledge they have regarding financial aid is outstanding,” Michelle explains. “They looked at all of the best options … and found a plan that worked for me.”

Michelle is excited about her career as a medical assistant, but she hopes to continue expanding on her educational experience.

“Even though I have graduated, I am still interested in learning,” she says.
