Globe University graduate Kevin Alexander is an aquatic and fitness specialist at Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute, where he brings his family’s tradition of giving back and his own passion for working with special populations to his job each day. Courage Kenny provides rehabilitation services for people with short- and long-term conditions, disabilities and injuries.
His interest in understanding how the human body works is what brought Alexander to Globe University, where he enrolled in the health fitness specialist program. Alexander graduated from the Woodbury campus in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Health Fitness Specialist.
“Having the opportunity to share the success stories of graduates like Kevin is extremely rewarding for our faculty and staff,” Lisa Palermo, campus director at Globe University-Woodbury, said. “To see our graduates thrive in their field, utilizing the skills gained while a student at Globe University, is one of the best parts of my job. Kevin is an example of student who embraced his externship experience, turning it into full-time employment. We are truly proud of Kevin’s accomplishments.”
Alexander began working with Courage Kenny as a volunteer and later completed an externship while still enrolled at Globe University. Upon graduation he was offered a full-time position. As part of Alexander’s job, he helps his clients reach a variety of goals – from being active and losing weight to learning how to walk.
Alexander recalls the Exercise Prescription for Special Populations class he took at Globe University; the class further drove his desire to work with special populations. Alexander uses the skills he learned while in class on a daily basis, applying specific lessons to experiences with his clients.
“Globe really gave me the tools that I needed to succeed with helping the special populations,” Alexander said.
In addition to the health-related skills he learned as part of his degree, Alexander also completed courses that focused on business communications, marketing, small business management and more. The mixture of professional skills makes for a better-rounded professional.
Alexander is one of the over 13,000 Globe University and Minnesota School of Business alumni from the past decade who have graduated career-ready. His passion to give back, paired with his education from Globe University, has set Alexander up for a successful career in the health fitness field.
